LIFE AND CULTURE

 

A reading comprehension lesson on life in China. Students will gain an understanding of daily life in China, and compare and contrast life there to life in America. Includes printable teaching lesson worksheet.

 

Suggested Grades:

2nd Grade - 3rd Grade - 4th Grade

 

 

Teaching Objectives:

By completing this lesson, students will be able to demonstrate their reading comprehension skills, including reading strategies, inference, literal meaning, and critical analysis.

 

 

 

 

 

 

CHINA LESSON

 

Directions:

Print the the reading comprehension passage and questions (see below).

 

Students should read the story silently, then answer the questions about the story that follow.  Discuss the answers to the questions with the students.

 

 

Excerpt from passage

China is a large country in Asia. More people live in China than in any country on Earth! In fact, one fifth of all the people in the world live in China. There are nearly one billion people there!

 

The big cities in China are very crowded, but most people live in small villages. There are many sheep and goat herders in China. There are also many farmers. There are many different kinds of land in China. China has mountains, plains, deserts, and farmland. In the winter, it can get very cold in China.
