WHAT IS LIGHT?

Students should read the passage
silently, then answer the questions.
Light is everywhere and it allows us to receive information about the world around us. It comes from many sources such as fire, light bulbs, and fireflies and of course the sun. Without sunlight, there would be only a world of darkness where no plants would grow and therefore there would be no food for people and animals and no heat. Everything would be frozen.
Light is a form of energy that you can detect with your eyes. It is a combination of magnetic and electric energy that travels extremely fast. Light is estimated to travel at the rate of approximately 300,000 km. per second. It can pass through anything that is transparent (objects which can be clearly seen through such as glass),
partially through anything that is translucent (objects which can only be partially seen through such as white paper), but cannot pass through things that are opaque (objects that cannot be seen through such as a brick wall)...
