CHANGE ME!

This is a simple word game for two players.

Beginning with the word ‘cat' pupils take turns to make new three letter words by replacing one letter at a time (e.g. cat, cot, hot, hop, hip etc).

  • Playing fairly
  • Vocabulary skills
  • Spelling skills

CHANGE ME WORD GAME LESSON PLAN

 

Materials

  • Change Me Game - Printable lesson plan.

  • A piece of A4 paper or card
  • 45 pieces of card measuring approximately 3cm X 3cm
  • Pens
  • Scrap paper for keeping score
  • A pot for out-of-play letters (e.g. an old cup or margarine tub)


Excerpt from Lesson:

  1. Take the A4 paper and draw three squares measuring 3cm X 3cm, side by side, in the middle of the paper.
  2. You are now going to write a letter on each of the 45 small squares of card. Write the letters according to the following chart:

One each of c, f, h, j, k, l, v, w, x, y and z.
Two each of  a, e, i, o, u, g, r and s.
Three each of b, d, m, n, p and t.
