  • Understand how repetition can lead to monotonous writing.
  • Learn how to create a sense of atmosphere by choosing words carefully.
  • Learn a range of synonyms for the word ‘said'.

SAID READING AND WRITING LESSON PLAN

 

Materials


Procedure:

Students should read the lesson, and complete the worksheet. As an option, teachers may also use the lesson as part of a classroom lesson plan.


Excerpt from Lesson:

In the extract below, three children are playing on the beach. They have climbed over some rocks into a small bay. While they are playing, the tide comes in.

Read the extract carefully.
    
“We're trapped!” Zak called, pointing towards the sea. Sofia and Adam wheeled around. The sea had poured into the little cove, cutting them off from the wide beach beyond.

        “Come on!” Adam screamed. “We can still make it.” They ran to the rocks but it was too late. The rocks they had climbed over only half an hour before were now in the middle of a foaming, boiling mass of water.
