Excerpt from passage
The guitar is a stringed musical
instrument which is possibly the most popular
instrument in the world today. It is played
by the right hand plucking or strumming the
strings and the left hand creating the different
tones on the neck of the guitar. Sound is
produced by the vibration of the strings,
which resonate (echo) in the body of the instrument.
They are built and repaired by craftsmen called luthiers. Guitars can have many different
sounds and are used in almost every type of
music.
History
The guitar as we know it today is believed
to have originated in Spain in the 1400s.
However, instruments that are very similar
to the guitar have been found in carvings
and statues that go back at least 5000 years
in ancient Iran and Asia... (continued...).
