An introduction to understanding compound words.

Objectives:

• Students will understand what a compound word is.

• Students will learn to identify compound words.

Suggested Grades:
1st Grade - 2nd Grade - 3rd Grade

 

  

 

Lesson Procedure:

Students should read the lesson, and complete the worksheet. As an option, teachers may also use the lesson as part of a classroom lesson plan.

Lesson Excerpt:

Compound words are formed when two words are joined together to make a new word.

For example:

book + case = bookcase

Sometimes, the new word has a meaning that is completely different from either of the two words joined to form it.
