Lesson Excerpt:

Introduction
In our last few lessons, we have been learning all about lines and line segments and about how to determine the distance between two points on a line segment. Today, we are going to learn about how to determine the midpoint of a line segment. Let's begin by defining the term midpoint.

Midpoint- of a segment is the point halfway between the two endpoints of a segment.

Example- If XY = YZ, and X, Y and Z are collinear, then Y is the midpoint of line segment XZ.

One of the things that you will notice as we work through geometry is that concepts tend to build on each other. In this example above, we used the word collinear to describe what we can see. Our previously learned material assists us in figuring out the midpoint of the line. It makes sense given the information provided that Y is the midpoint of line segment XZ.
