Lesson Excerpt:
Note: This is a shorter lesson. If the class uses a block schedule, this lesson could be combined with the previous lesson. If not, teach this lesson as a new lesson as it does introduce a few new concepts. If extra class time allows, use the class activity that is listed at the end of the lesson plan.
**Calculators will be helpful to students during this lesson.
I. Introduction and Review
- “We have been learning about patterns and pattern rules. Can anyone tell me what a pattern is, or rather, how do we know when we are working with a pattern?”
- Student answer: a series of terms that repeats in some way and follows a rule.
- Note: Write this on the board for students. It will help them to review previously learned material. It is also key for special education students to review material in a visual and auditory way, as it aids retention.
- “Good, so when we are talking about a pattern, we are talking about something that repeats in some way and follows a rule.”
