Students will learn how to divide rational numbers.

 

Objectives:

• Student will review the rules for dividing negative and positive numbers.

• Students will review dividing fractions and mixed numbers.

• Students will review dividing decimals.

• Students will learn how to combine these skills together.

• Students will practice dividing rational numbers.

 

Suggested Grades:

Sixth Grade - Seventh Grade - Eighth Grade - Ninth Grade - including special education students

II. Dividing Fractions/whole numbers

- "Once again, keep in mind that we are still going to be using the rules for dividing negative and positive numbers, except this time we are going to be applying them when dividing whole numbers and fractions."
- "Let's review how to divide a whole number by a fraction."
- On Board: 7/1/2
- "In this problem, 7 is divided by ½. Now, whenever we are dividing by a fraction, what do we need to do to the fraction?"
- Use student volunteers. You need to multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction.
